How does the Paediatric ST3 Crash Course work?
A focused, on‑demand video course with six modules that will teach you the core frameworks and scenarios that map directly onto the current ST3 interview format.
Module 1:
Orientation & strategy
Understand the ST3 paediatric interview format, timing and scoring, including the virtual set‑up, domains and the appointability threshold. It also shows you what actually happens on the day, decodes the person specification into behaviours you can demonstrate, covers virtual‑interview logistics, and gives you a simple prep plan plus last‑48‑hours strategy.
Module 2:
Core frameworks you’ll use everywhere
You learn four reusable 6‑step structures: one for any acute clinical scenario, one for communication/consent, one for reflective answers and one for governance/leadership. The module then shows how to apply them to typical stems (neonate with apnoeas, bronchiolitis, vaccine hesitancy, rota gaps, drug errors, etc.) and introduces the “four lenses” trick so you can view any question through clinical, communication, reflection and governance angles.
Module 3:
Communication deep‑dive
This module makes you fluent with the communication structure across common paeds tasks, linking it directly to the 10‑minute, 40‑mark communication domain. You work through scenarios like bronchiolitis admission, severe asthma, LP consent, PICU transfer, croup/febrile seizure discharge, vaccine hesitancy and near‑miss complaints, focusing on explanation, uncertainty, benefits/risks, safety‑netting, empathy and professionalism.
Module 4:
Clinical thinking deep‑dive
Here you apply the 6‑step acute framework across core emergencies in neonates, infants and older children, aligned with how the 40 clinical marks are awarded. You practise structured thinking for sepsis, bronchiolitis, DKA, asthma, meningitis, abdominal pain and “grey” cases, with emphasis on safe, proportional, guideline‑aware management and clear escalation.
Module 5:
Reflective practice deep‑dive
This module turns your real experiences into 7‑minute, high‑scoring reflective answers using the 6‑step reflection structure. You build and refine examples around adverse events, good clinical events, complaints/feedback and QI projects, shifting the focus from storytelling to analysis, learning, behaviour change and wider impact.
Module 6:
Governance & leadership deep‑dive
You learn what governance, duty of candour, QI and “just culture” really mean at ST3 level, and how they map to the governance/leadership marks. Through stems on drug errors, safeguarding, data breaches, bullying, unsafe rota gaps and running a busy paeds shift, you practise giving structured, safety‑first answers that show leadership, escalation, documentation and follow‑up learning.
